Moderating Small Spaces Is a Different Job
Ten thousand tiny rooms cannot be policed centrally, and mostly do not need to be.
Content moderation as normally practised is a response to strangers reaching strangers at scale. Remove that and most of the problem changes shape rather than disappearing.
What Small Rooms Fix by Themselves
Spam, brigading, engagement bait and outrage farming all require reach. Without a public surface there is nothing to farm, and these categories have never made up a meaningful share of our reports.
What They Make Harder
Coercive control, harassment by someone you know, and material shared inside a group that should never have been shared anywhere. These are worse in small spaces, not better, because the victim usually cannot simply leave.
Which Is Why Reports Beat Detection
We do not scan circle contents. What we do instead is make reporting fast, make it anonymous inside the circle, and staff it seven days a week. Every report reaches a person within a day.
The Uncomfortable Admission
A network of private rooms cannot promise that nothing bad happens in them. What it can promise is that reporting is easy, answered by a human, and never weighed against advertising revenue — because there is none.
