About Circles
A social network with no public feed, no advertising and no ranking — funded by the people who use it.
Small was the missing feature
“Every network we grew up with started small and got worse as it got bigger. We wanted to find out what happens if it simply never gets bigger.”
Circles began in 2029 as an argument about group chats. They are the last place people share honestly, and they are terrible at everything else — no albums, no history worth searching, no way to leave without losing years of photographs.
So we built the opposite of a feed. Every post goes to one circle of nine people on average. There is no public surface, no follower count and no ranking model. It turns out most of what makes social networks unpleasant is downstream of trying to reach strangers.
Three things we will not build
Stated plainly, so you can hold us to them.
No public surface
Not now and not later. Nothing here is crawlable, quotable out of context, or reachable by someone the poster did not choose.
No ranking model
Chronological or nothing. The moment a machine decides what you see first, it starts deciding what you post.
No advertising
We do not collect what targeting would require. There is no ad business to protect, which is why our privacy defaults can stay where they are.
Who runs it
Eleven people, one office, no growth team.
